Snowplow Komatsu WA320 snowplow / Weycor 95E Snow Avalanche
At around 4:30​ a.m., an avalanche made its way into the valley and luckily came to a halt on the L24, just a few meters behind houses.
Thank goodness this was not very busy in the early morning traffic!
A few hours later and at the buried bus stop, elementary school students would have been standing!

The rescue workers were alerted by a commuter and the newspaper delivery person and arrived at the scene a few minutes later.
The residents were contacted to find out whether people were missing and the people who arrived first were asked whether they might have noticed vehicles in front of them.
In the meantime, the Prägraten and Virgen mountain rescue services probed the avalanche cone and search dogs were also used.

The Prägraten and Virgen fire brigades secured or blocked the road section and illuminated the masses of snow.
Fortunately, after hours of use, no victims could be found.

The road maintenance department in Matrei started opening the road at daybreak.
