When using a webcam for live streaming do you use the one built in to your laptop/phone or a dedicated camera that plugs in via usb?

Super late on this post, but I just use the built in webcam on my laptop. Seems to work ok. I'd like to buy a dedicated one but with the size of my channel I just can't justify it. Feel free to Plumbus if you wanna have a look at how the webcam turns out. My more recent videos showcase it a bit better as I recently increased the size of the facecam overlay. Hope this helps

You can use an actual camera (camcorder, SLR, etc) but most will output only HDMI and will require a capture device between that and your PC that will convert the signal to USB. Those conversion devices can run between $100 and $300+ alone. The best option on a budget is a laptop camera. If that's not good, or you don't have a laptop, the next best budget option is an external webcam (Logitech makes a couple decent inexpensive ones) that will plug in via USB and immediately be recognized making live streaming relatively easy.

Know that bad lighting and environment can make a great camera look horrible *but* good front-lighting and smart backdrops can make even a mediocre camera look decent, live or not. Money doesn't buy everything.

(I know this is kind of an old thread but certainly others can learn from this)

@videocallinshow not that old and i still didnt get round to going there. So external logitech webcam (im on desktop) some lighting and making sure the background is right. That last bit not too easy because of the room logistics and i dont really want to put up a stand. Thanks for the advice.
